Someone once said to us ‘all women are mothers, you don’t need to have a human child to be a mother’. This has never rung more true. We cherished conceiving this company together, it’s been a joy raising her & watching her grow each day.

And, having spent the last hour speaking with her, I feel three words come to my mind: Not. Any. More.

I breathe out, sit taller, feeling in my heart a collective of women who might now feel seen and heard – might even feel a little less alone because Winnie Li has walked before them. I feel the strength and the fury of an army of women who are not lost and never silent. They will never be silenced. Not any more. They are free.’

CASTING CALL: We are looking for a female actor (50 or older) of Arab descent who is fluent in Levantine Arabic for new film, Ladies Coffee.

Ladies Coffee is an Arabic language, Lovecraftian horror short film written and directed by award-winning Amal Al-Agroobi. Isabella Speaight & Cat White are producing for Backscatter Productions & Kusini Films. Shooting is planned for 1/2nd October near London.

Amal Al-Agroobi is an award-winning Emirati director. Her feature documentary The Brain That Sings, which explores autism, disability, and special needs in the Middle East, won the Audience’s Choice Award, and went on to change government legislation in the UAE, creating positive social impact for special needs children in education. Amal was also one of a handful of filmmakers from the United Arab Emirates to have ever made a feature-length film. Other credits include 2012 documentary Half Emirati (which premiered at Dubai Film Festival), Under the Hat (2016), Vanish in Smoke (2019) and The Protocol (2021).
