Backscatter Productions is an award-winning, female led, London based production company, set up in 2019 by Isabella Speaight and Molly Murphy.

After becoming aware of a lack of resources and connective tissue between young, underrepresented filmmakers in TV & film, and driven by a desire to create inspiring and compelling work that reflects the changing industry, they created their platform, Backscatter Productions. Their films thus far focus on female-led narratives with female creatives at the helm.

"Collaboration is at the heart of our work, we love to bring like minded creatives together to nurture and bring new exciting stories to life."

MOLLY MURPHY

Co-founder & producer

Despite her very British sounding accent, Molly hails from the South of France, where she was born and grew up. Having done a 180° turnaround after a degree in Biochemistry (Bristol University 2013), she headed to drama school (Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, 2017). Joining the efforts of her creative mind, and her love of spreadsheets (once a scientist, always a scientist), she’s found a natural flair to producing, and thrives off the sparks that come from bringing creative like minded people together.
Molly also works as a freelance producer.

ISABELLA SPEAIGHT

Co-founder & producer

Isabella is a BAFTA Connect producer, filmmaker & actor with over four years experience in the industry. In 2020 she was awarded the BBC mentoring programme from the Little Wing Film Festival.

Isabella seeks to find the synthesis between politically driven female themes and emotionally-led narratives. She looks for beauty in the mundane, and is drawn to art, poetry, nature and the physical body as key inspirations in her work.

Much of Isabella’s work to date has been driven by a desire to illuminate social topics, particularly women’s rights. In her film, Farewell She Goes, she partnered with charity, Womankind Worldwide, to raise awareness for a woman’s right to choose. She worked on the upcoming documentary Holloway which will follow women who were once incarcerated in Holloway Prison on their final physical journey back inside. On her upcoming film, Wild Animal (starring Charlotte Riley), she is working with Action on Postpartum Psychosis.

Isabella is represented by Independent Talent.
