Backscatter Productions is an award-winning, female led, London based production company, set up in 2019 by Isabella Speaight and Molly Murphy.

After becoming aware of a lack of resources and connective tissue between young, underrepresented filmmakers in TV & film, and driven by a desire to create inspiring and compelling work that reflects the changing industry, they created their platform, Backscatter Productions. Their films thus far focus on female-led narratives with female creatives at the helm.

"Collaboration is at the heart of our work, we love to bring like minded creatives together to nurture and bring new exciting stories to life."

MOLLY MURPHY

Co-founder & producer

Despite her very British sounding accent, Molly hails from the South of France, where she was born and grew up. Having done a 180° turnaround after a degree in Biochemistry (Bristol University 2013), she headed to drama school (Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, 2017). Joining the efforts of her creative mind, and her love of spreadsheets (once a scientist, always a scientist), she’s found a natural flair to producing, and thrives off the sparks that come from bringing creative like minded people together.
Molly also works as a freelance producer.

ISABELLA SPEAIGHT

Co-founder & producer

Having been brought up in an eccentric household of actors and artists, Isabella was surrounded by stories of the stage from a young age. At fifteen she played Lady Macbeth, with whom she formed a long lasting relationship; one that kickstarted her love of acting. Since graduating from Leeds University and the Oxford School of Drama, Isabella found a deeper love in film. Inspired by actresses like Vivien Leigh and Lauren Bacall she has always found solace in intense and emotionally driven characters. ‘The girl that I select must be possessed of the devil and charged with electricity’ George Cukor on Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the Wind.
